The Astral Library

I chose The Astral Library because I recently started exploring magical realism, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite genres. I've also read most of Kate Quinn's books, and I always find them immensely satisfying.

However, the characters are what truly drew me in. Alix felt real to me; although she is smart and careful, she conceals a lot within herself. She isn't fearless and deeply desires to be "chosen," a longing that stems from her past as a foster child. This desire influences her every decision, especially when it comes to trust.

I should also highlight the connections between the characters, which really bring this book to life. There is a tension between loyalty and self-preservation, particularly between Beau and Alix, which adds an emotional layer to the story. I found myself less focused on the plot's progression and more intrigued by the characters' development.

If you enjoy reading for character depth-where you can grasp why someone makes messy or complicated choices-this book offers plenty to think about. Also, any book lover will relish the experience of moving from one book to another, especially works by Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and "The Great Gatsby."

This story is both fun and creative, but it also carries a message about book banning, library closures, and the bureaucratic decisions affecting libraries. It emphasizes the sanctuary that libraries and reading in general provide.

If you like well-researched stories with strong female characters, you'll likely enjoy this book, even with its fantasy element. Fans of magical realism will also enjoy it.
